After an unwinnable war against cancer, Martine decided
enough was enough. Only her family and closest friends were
invited to say goodbye at the hospital. I was honored to be one of them.
Before I went in, I was told Martine was so weak that I had only five
minutes. Those five minutes were mostly about me, while I was
bawling my eyes out.

Although she was in a lot of pain, she never lost her sense of humor.
When her best friend Isabelle came to say goodbye, she wanted
to keep score: "So, how many sobbing men have you had at the
edge of your bed?"
